One Step Back, Two Steps Forward

This is the way things go sometimes. Just when you feel like everything is going in the right direction you may need to take a step back.

The best coaches in the world will tell you to take a step back and concentrate on technique when you hit a road block. It may be frustrating but this advice will bring you two steps forward every time.

The best athletes in the world practice this advice every day. When something starts to go wrong the first thing to evaluate is technique. Some like to call it "back to the basics".

This doesn't mean you should evaluate technique just when things are going bad. It is good practice to encourage good technique. This will allow an athlete to remember and repeat great performances. This will also lead into mental preparation which we will cover later.

As CFL is getting ready to open we are taking a step back to insure everything is in place to have a safe environment for everyone to enjoy. New bathrooms are being installed and fire safety equipment has been installed. It shouldn't be long and the doors will be open. We will be taking two steps forward very soon.

GOALS

We have set some specific goals to reach prior to opening. Everyday we try to insure we are reaching the goals we set forth.

Now its time for you to start thinking about your goals and what you want to accomplish this year as a member of CFL.

Here is an easy to remember method for setting goals. In setting goals we have to be SMART:

• S - Specific - goals must be specific and clearly identify your target

• M - Measurable - determine how you are going to see progress

• A - Attainable - it is within your capability

• R - Realistic - goals should be just beyond your immediate grasp

• T - Timely - create time lines

In order to achieve our goals, it may be necessary to change our attitude, comfort zone, people we associate with, and even our jobs. Some of the changes are quite critical. We have to admit we need to get out of a rut and make the necessary changes.

Setting Goals

1. Decide what you want.

2. Make a list of everything you would like to accomplish with no limitations.

3. What would you go after if you were guaranteed that you could not fail?

4. Write out a detailed explanation of why you want each of your goals and what achieving them will mean to you.

5. Build a plan for accomplishing your goals.

6. Set the date of accomplishment.

7. Think of it often (start asking yourself: Is the direction I am taking today helping achieve my goal?).

8. Dream and imagine.

9. Stay positive (read and listen to positive things daily).

10. Act as though you have achieved it (conceive – believe - achieve).

Just remember it is acceptable if you don’t reach a goal. What is most important is to understand why you didn’t reach it and make a plan on how you will.

Everyday we get closer and closer to what so many can’t wait to happen. We are making tremendous progress on getting our doors open to the public.

Squat racks are being set up, bars are being unpacked, and weights are getting stacked up. We will continue to improve our area and space to make CFL an enjoyable atmosphere for all.

It is CFL’s goal to provide the best training you have ever experienced. Our positive training methods will allow you to reach goals you never imagined you could reach before.

The excitement in the air is starting to build. We will continue to update you as we get closer and closer.

Testing

We are in the process of testing out equipment and everything is looking good. Our floor plan is a working floor plan so things will move around to try and maximize our space. Don't be scared if you walk in the gym and things have moved from the last time you entered.

Feedback is welcome and appreciated. We are here for you. We are compiling our wish list now so if there is something you want to see in the gym tell a coach. We will evaluate the use and put it on the list.

Soon we will all enjoy our new playground!

HARD AT WORK

Thank you to everyone who is working hard to make this happen. Our family and friends have been hard at work.

We are just starting to find out how powerful the CrossFit community really is. It is made up of great people that work hard and are dedicated to get the job done.

It is truly amazing how other Affiliates offer their support. Yankee CrossFit in Farmington has offered their support and has given us some really key tips to opening up. As our community grows each Affiliate will continue to get stronger and stronger.

We are in the final stages of build out. It is just a matter of getting a few contractors organized and our town approval and we will be ready to rock! Our floor should be delivered today and the weights are on the way from Rogue. We are still shooting for March 1st so stay tuned and keep in touch.
