90 Days!!!

Vision:

For you (Paleo cavestars) to gain health and fitness.  I’m not a score keeping kinda cavewomen. I want you to have a quest that is desire-driven and achieved. I know other CrossFits have stricter Paleo competitions. I thought about it, and thought about it. We want the best you, you can achieve.  We want it to stick and it’s been my life experience that life experience sticks. When people roll into the ER sick, they are not handed a point system to get better, they get a team of which they are an integral part of. Then it’s a joint effort to get that person better. What’s more compelling and inspirational than that????  I challenge you to set as your Prize your own health and fitness, feeling better, being stronger and most of all happy. If at the end of this quest you’ve just grown to like yourself more, feel more at ease with how you look, and sleep better - quest achieved!

Brian, Izzo, and I will stand by you as much as we can. Our gym is not an ordinary gym, so we don’t want this to be an ordinary quest. We are here to help our community become healthy.

If you need the science and technical information behind Paleo, I have a strange, geeky side that can sit down and discuss that with you. I can refer you to books or medical studies that will fill you with the knowledge of the cave world. Ask and you shall receive. But ask yourself this, what is so hard to understand or believe about going Paleo? All that this quest is asking you to do is eat as much unprocessed food as possible. Eat meat, veggies, fruit, seeds and nuts. We are not asking you to use a powder made in a chemical plant, this is not a lotion that you apply to your skin to make you look thinner, this is not a pill you take to make you skinnier….we are asking you to give up sugar and processed foods, to get more sleep and have more sex. Why? Because it’s better for you!   I’m ready for the list of reasons why you can’t get more sleep or why you need to have a certain foods. We are going to call you out. Your reasons are all excuses and excuses are basically…fear of change.

It’s possible that Paleo won’t work for you. It's 90 days; that’s a long time, but not a lifetime. Give it a Nicki Minaj try!  It could possible change your life and health forever.  We kick this off on Tuesday, September 6th, midway is November 17th, and the end date is December 4th. I know there are two “holidays” (Halloween and Thanksgiving) within this quest, I know that fact offers an additional challenge to your quest…it’s going to be hard…suck it up buttercup. You’re going to look HAWT in that Christmas dress, I can’t wait to see our dudes in dresses.

This quest is about ACCOUNTABLITY and NOT GIVING UP!

1. For the next 90 days…
-  Eat as little processed food as possible.
- Eat veggies, lean meats, seeds, nuts and some fruit.
- Eat little-to-no sugar.
- Drink lots of water (more than you think you need to).
- Go to bed 20 minutes early two nights per week and/or take a nap in your bed on the weekend or days off.
- Turn off your TV, phone, and compute one night per week, 30 minutes earlier than you do now.
- Get to CFL at least four times per week - even when you don’t feel like it.

2. You and your Paleo Mate(s) come up with two personal goals that you want to reach in 90 days. Write them down, tell me, and tell your PM(s). You can also make them public.  Being embarrassed might help you stay motivated.

3. You and your teammate call, text, or facebook, each other DAILY about what you’re eating and how you're feeling in general. Verge on being annoying, but be considerate of boundaries. Need cues on how to be annoying? Text me @ 860-801-0328. Need cues on how to be considerate yet still annoying? Text Jillian @ 860-459-55117.

4. Record your WOD’s and eating daily. Write details on how you feel during your WOD’s and how you’re sleeping and eating.  Don’t have time to keep a journal – I call BS – it takes two seconds.

5. This Tuesday we will do WOD’s that are recordable and repeatable.

6. You have a choice here. You and your Paleo Mate(s) can take before, during and after pictures of each other. Or you can just have a family member take one of you, so that you can compare how you look and feel.

7. Stay off the scale, WHY because Gaga said so.

8. Pick one cheat day or night per week. Live a little, you’ll find that on your cheat days you will eat cleaner than normal because you’ll feel like ass when you stray too far.  Put on your drinking shoes and tutu, it’s time to party like its 1999! (No beer, clear alcohol is as close to Paleo as you’re going to get).  Can’t go 90 days without beer – there are meetings for that!

9. Go for a walk, a hike, or to a park with family and friends once a week or play a new sport - just get outside and do something fun. We’re trying to achieve health here, not to be on the cover of some $8 magazine so you can tell the world “I have abs like Brad Pitt and an ass like J-Lo”.

10. (I’m getting close to the end of this list, so hang with me). Don’t make this harder than it needs to be. Eat meat, veggies, fruit, seeds and nuts. If you have to eat a grape (not Paleo) over a Luna bar…eat the damn grape.

11.  Help each other. Stay on track.  Don’t just give up because you fell off the Paleo skateboard. Every meal is a new meal and a chance to eat clean and to be cavestars!

12. Stay on the Paleo skateboard because every time you fall off you HAVE to report it to your PM(s) and each of you have to do 20 burpees or stand in front of CFL naked and scream “I’m a Paleo cheater”.  Not reporting things to your Paleo Mate(s) only hurts you.  Don’t be embarrassed if you take a digger, jump up, brush yourself off and do better next time.  Even Tony Hawk takes a digger from time to time.

13. At the end of our 90 days we will have a “I look better naked than I did 90 days ago” WOD.  It will be the same as the kick off WOD.

14. We will have a Paleo Christmas Party at the end of our quest. Dress to impress.  At this party we will crown our winning team and one overall winner.  Then the winners will dance together to a slow Journey song to celebrate. The prize is…drumroll please…your health and happiness! Feeling better, looking better, and enjoying who you are…I can’t top that, can you?  Not to mention you’ll be a person who people look up to and who your kids and/or co-workers say “wow you look amazing”. That’s the prize!  Oh yeah, and a feature on our website – your picture and Paleo quest story.  Brian, Izzo, and I will be picking the winners.  How will we determine that – wouldn’t you like to know!!

15. This Paleo quest is an act of accountability and community. We will grow as friends and PM’s. This is not a dinosaur eat dinosaur kinda deal.  I could create some kind of point system, with each of you sprinting to the finish line, but at the end, when the dangling carrot is taken away – will you stick to it?  So, instead this is about your own long term motivation and accountability.  Ok buttercup, this is the real world. Let’s do it together and make a change that lasts.

16. This is a list of links with explanations of Paleo that I would prefer you use. If you have other links, please run them by me. YOU WILL see some conflicting ideas and/or foods on different lists. Make the best choice for you and move on.

http://robbwolf.com/  Robb is my God! Ask him and listen to the pod casts. Read his book, read it again! Get as much as you can from this site before you go rumbling around the internet looking for information.
There are several more, use these as much as you can - please.

17. Get to CFL 4 times a week.  Make the most of your time in the box. Use the tools we have given you to this point.  While you’re chatting, grab a roller or ball.  In other words, prepare for your WOD and be a responsible athlete.  Give it your all, and when you are done, cheer for others.
